New iPhone 12 2020 features overview: what can we expect? When will it come out?

When will iPhone 12 come out?

The new iPhone 12 will be most likely to launch in September according to sources, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max may be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

Since the iPhone 11 launched during the Apple event last year on September 10, the 2020 September event this year should also launch the new iPhone 12.

But everything is unsure since many other companies with phone launch events have been delayed or cancelled and if the virus is still prevalent by September, Apple may delay or cancel the launch of the new iPhone 12.

What are the models and how much will iPhone 12 cost?

As we know, this year will feature 4 new variations and models of the iPhone 12.

  3. iPhone 12 Pro

  • Dual Rear Cameras

The iPhone 12 Pro features

  • 1 Inch OLED Display 120 Hz (Made by Samsung)
  • 128GB / 256GB / 512GB Storage
  • 6GB Ram
  • A14 Bionic Chipset with 5G

The base pricing on the 4 new iPhone 12 is as follows – according to respected industry analyst Jon Prosser.

iPhone 12 – $649

iPhone 12 Max – $749

iPhone 12 Pro – $999

iPhone 12 Pro Max – $1,099

So from the price range of $649 to $1,099 the price of these line-up varies greatly. The major difference between the regular iPhone 12 and the Pro versions is the triple camera + LiDAR setup and also the 120Hz refresh screen.

And the most premium of the phone the Pro Max being 120Hz refresh on a pretty big 6.7 inch screen!

How is iPhone 12 going to look like?

How is iPhone 12 going to look like?

According to sources, the new iPhone 12 will be a flat metal edge design – similar to the iPhone 5. And the iPhone 12 Pro series might have a new different design.

From Jon Prosser’s twitter, he posted an image of the blueprint of iPhone 12’s blueprint. On it, it shows that Apple did manage to shrink the notch to a more compact and smaller size by moving up the earpiece speaker.

So the regular iPhone 12, 5.4 Inch model will be super to use with just one hand while gaining near full screen experience.

From another source Max Weinbach, who is a reliable Apple leaker, it is believed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s design also features flatter sides and edges, it comes with an in built LiDAR scanner and also a smaller notch too.

iPhone 12 5G

With Apple’s not chipset, the A14 Bionic, it will feature 5G network capabilities to all four iPhone 12 models.

However, within 5G network capabilities, there are different features that some of the models might not have.

According to the Apple Analyst Jon Prosser, the mmWave technology may not be supported by the regular iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Max. mmWave technology enables the fastest download speeds, but those models may only come with sub-6GHz 5G.

As for the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will support the mmWave technology which will allow speed of up to 2Gbps and also the sub-6GHz. The sub-6GHz offers longer range over speed so customers of the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max can enjoy both speed and range should one require the other more.

iPhone 12 Cameras

iPhone 12 Cameras

As the iPhone houses some of the best camera in the smartphone market today, what would the iPhone 12 camera offer?

Last years iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max has the triple camera setup. The new iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will also feature the triple camera but with a new lens.

According to reputable Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this new lens; a LiDAR time-of-flight sensor will be added on to the triple camera setup of the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

From a leaked blueprint of the new Apple iPhone Pro, the camera setup at the back will be a square. Three main cameras + the additional LiDAR camera.

This new LiDAR camera will be able to calculate the distance between the object your camera is pointing at and the phone. What this will do is lead to better focused shots and also have more accurate object tracking.

DigiTimes has also reported that the iPhone 12 Pro’s new camera setup will help with stabilization as the technology and sense more accurately how the phone is moving and then optimizing the video or image to provide the best stabilization.

Reputable Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the new iPhone 12’s camera will feature a 7-part (7P) plastic element.

The current iPhones uses a 6P plastic element so a 7P upgrade will improve on the zoom lenses magnifications and also distortions of images.

iPhone 12 Colors

With the standard White, Black and Grey for the iPhones, some rumors say that a Blue Color will come and replace the Midnight green from the last year’s iPhone 11 Pro Line-ups.

The blue color however will be for the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

iPhone 12 Touch ID in display?

As touch ID hasn’t been in the Apple iPhone lineups in a long time, the new technology will allow Touch ID to return.

Many phones in the market this year and last years have featured an in-display ultrasonic scanner but according to apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it may be possible that the 2021 line-up of iPhones will feature both Touch ID and Face Unlock, so if that is accurate, we will have to wait to 2021 to get Touch ID.

iPhone 12 Display

This year’s iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will feature a 120Hz refresh display. The screen is manufactured by Samsung – Since they already have implemented this with their Galaxy S20 Series.

The new craze has of refresh rates is also being widely adopted by other flagship phone companies. One Plus 8 Pro also features the 120Hz display and also the ROG 2 Phone from 2019. So the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be with the top phones on the market.

But what does 120Hz refresh display do? Well it will offer a smoother experience on the phone when scrolling and snappier performance. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate – meaning when needed, the phone will be on 120Hz but when the higher refresh rate is not needed, then it kicks back 60Hz to save more battery.

The iPhone 12 series line-up from Apple this year is exciting! Lots of new features that iPhones typically have not seen before. From the 120Hz refresh screens to an all new LiDAR sensor and also 5G network support capabilities and a massive battery on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple is really going all out on the features of the new iPhone 12 series this year.

Hopefully the event and launch will go as planned but we will have to wait and see as to how the pandemic will affect Apple’s schedules.
