How to Create a New Apple ID on Your iPhone?

If you have recently switched to Apple or have bought yourself a new Apple device, chances are that you will hear the term Apple ID a LOT! If you are looking for help trying to set up a new Apple ID on your iPhone or Mac, you have come to the right blog post!

Before I tell you how to set up or create your new Apple ID, let’s quickly read through what is an Apple ID, for those readers who are new to the Apple universe!

Imagine having to manually log each of your appointments, contacts, notes to yourself etc, on each of your devices, whether that is your phone or your laptop or tablet. With the Apple ID, Apple has given its users a seamless way to eliminate such issues.

An Apple ID is basically a single identification tool or account that helps you sync all your information across any number of Apple devices. An Apple ID enables you to sync functions such as contacts, reminders, notes, calendar appointments etc, across your iPhone, Mac, iPad etc.

Your Apple ID also acts as the gateway for easy access to content on the App Store and the iTunes Store, such as games, music, movies, and other media.

Apple ID account

Signing up for and creating an Apple ID is easy and it is free. The ID itself consists of an email address and a password that you will choose during the signing up process. This ID allows access to your payment information that you will use on the App Store or while on the iTunes Store.

Creating a new Apple ID on your iPhone

Setting up an Apple ID is a breeze. Follow these steps to set up a new Apple ID for yourself.

  1. Go to the settings option on the home screen of your iPhone and tap on it. This is the grey icon with the little cog on it and looks like the screen shot below.
  2. Tap on the ‘Sign in to your iPhone’ banner on the top of the screen. This is next to the grey silhouette or the blank display picture. Once you set up your Apple ID, you have the option to edit this and upload a picture of your choosing.
  3. Next, you want to tap on the ‘Don’t have an Apple ID’, because we are setting up a new ID here. This will begin the sign up process.
  4. You will need to have a valid email address to sign up for an Apple ID as this will become your login id.

However, if you don’t have an existing active email address, you can always choose to get a free iCloud email address, which will typically look like yourname@icloud.com

You will also be asked to enter your first and last name and your birthday.

  1. For the next step, you will be asked to enter a password of your choosing. You will need to enter the same password again to verify it.
  2. Continue onto the screen where you will be asked to answer three security questions. These can be any three of your choosing.
  3. You will finally come to the Terms & Conditions screen. Tap on ‘Agree’to create your Apple ID. As mentioned earlier, you can use this Apple ID on any of your other Apple devices to sync your data across multiple devices.

Creating a new Apple ID on the Apple website

Another way to create an Apple ID is to do it through the Apple website. To do this, go onto the Apple website of your country or apple.com. If you are outside the United States of America, the website usually prompts you to visit your country’s Apple website automatically.

Once you are on the Apple website, scroll to the absolute bottom, till you see this screen.

Manage Your Apple ID

Under the “Account” column, click on “Manage Your Apple ID”.

Once you click on this option, you will see the following screen.

Create Your Apple ID

Click on “Create Your Apple ID”.

This will take you to an online form that asks you for your name, location, email etc.

Create Your Apple account

After you are done filling these details up, click on the blue Continue tab at the bottom to finish signing up for an Apple ID.

The sign up process is fairly straightforward and if you miss something, the website will automatically prompt you to correct the error.

Something to Remember

If you have never used an Apple device or any of Apple’s services before, setting up a new Apple ID is the way to go, obviously. However, if you have used an Apple device before, you probably have an old Apple ID, even if you don’t remember what it might be.

In this case, it might be easier to recover your old Apple ID instead of setting up an altogether new one. It is super easy to reset your Apple ID and password. This can be done either on the Apple website or on your iPhone or other Apple device.

If your email address has recently changed or if you want to change the email address associated with your email id, this can easily be done through the Apple website by logging in with your apple id on the website and then editing the current email address to the new one.

Creating an Apple ID for Your Child

In most countries, Apple does not allow children under the age of 13 to create an Apple ID for themselves. In such cases, you can create an Apple ID for your child, if you are the organizer of your Family Sharing group.

To do this, once you are logged in with your Apple ID, tap on Settings on the home screen of your Apple devices, such as your iPhone or iPad.

Next, tap on your name, to go into your Apple ID details. Scroll to the ‘Family Sharing’ option. If you are the organizer, you should be able to see an option called ‘Add Member’.

Select ‘Create an Account for a Child’ and tap on Continue. Follow the prompts to set up an account for your child, and you’re all done!

So, there you have it! Hopefully, this post has helped you set up your Apple ID, without much hassle. Till next time!
