AirPods 3 vs. AirPods Pro: Which Should You Buy?

There’s something that accounts for good music – and that’s in how well it sounds to the ear.

Trust you don’t want to go about with some earpiece wire dangling across your chest like a stethoscope – that alone is quite burdensome.

I mean, just think about it, who goes around with some long ropes across the trunk? to be frank, that is old-fashioned and this might be your chance to consider switching to earbuds if that thought hasn’t crossed your mind yet.

Just in case you’re yet to get a hang of the iPhone 13, well, this is just to let you know that things are about to get sleeker within the AirPods category.

Permit me to say this; Asides from the iPhone 13 released in September, the 3rd generation AirPods category released earlier this week, is one of the best things Apple did to earn more loyal fans.

Now, you ask how? I know you’re curious but not to worry, I’d let you in on that as you read on.

As usual, come along with some yummy pie and fruit juice, it Promises to be an exciting journey. Till the point, you find the word ‘cheers’, don’t stop reading.

Apple announced the debut of its 3rd generation AirPods during the unleashed event. And just as rumor had it, they are similar to the AirPods Pro.

From the shorter stem to the shape of the earpiece, both gadgets are so similar well, except for the open design (like we see in the old model) as opposed to the changeable tips.

The AirPods 3 features spatial audio support and water resistance which is absent in the standard AirPods.

I’d share with you the difference between the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro below;

The major difference between the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro is seen in the active noise cancellation and it is exclusive to the $249 (£239) AirPods Pro.

Despite the absence of the active noise cancellation feature, the AirPods 3 still come with other audio improvements like spatial audio and adaptive EQ.

You can think of spatial audio like a virtual surrounding sound that helps make audio feel more engulfing and mimics the ambiance of a cinema.

On the flip side, the adaptive EQ adjusts audio based on the shape of your ear.

Design

In terms of design, the AirPods 3 have a striking semblance with the shape of the AirPods Pro but have no interchangeable silicon tips like in the AirPods Pro which has 3 sizes to pick from.

Although, not as slender as the AirPods Pro earpiece, the AirPods 3 have an earpiece that is quite narrower and not as rounded as the standard AirPods.

The AirPods 3 stems are quite shorter and also have a similar force touch sensor as in the AirPods Pro thus, allowing you to control audio playback and launch Siri. This feature makes it similar to the AirPods Pro.

Weight

In terms of weight, the AirPods 3 weigh 0.15 ounces and it is Prominently lighter than the AirPods Pro which weighs 0.19 ounces.

Durability

The AirPods 3 is fluid (water and sweat) resistant like the AirPods Pro and it is just the best choice for you if you exercise or hit the gym regularly.

Similar to the earpiece, the case of the AirPods 3 simulates a cross between the case for the standard AirPods and AirPods Pro. Albeit, it is shorter and wider than the entry-level AirPods case. However, it is not as wide as the holster for the AirPods Pro.

Performance and Battery Life

In terms of performance and battery life, the AirPods 3 have extended battery life which should last for six hours on a single charge and five hours when spatial audio is enabled but with the same old chip as the AirPods Pro. Also, you’ll get to enjoy four hours of talk time and the charging case gives up to 30 hours of listening time.

The AirPods Pro, on the other hand, will last up to about 4.5 hours on a single charge and five hours if active noise cancellation and transparency mode are disabled. In addition, they give 3.5 hours of talk time and offer 24 hours of listening time.

However, both AirPods support wireless charging and MagSafe. This means you can charge the AirPods 3 case through wireless charging, either by using Apple’s MagSafe charger or by plugging it in.

Processor Chip

Both the AirPods 3 Pro and the AirPods Pro features Apple’s H1 chip, this implies that they will give the same performance when it comes to tasks like calling Siri for assistance or swift connection to Apple devices.

Sensor

The AirPods 3 features a skin-detect sensor, motion-detecting accelerometer, speed-detecting accelerometer, and force sensor.

While the AirPods Pro features a dual optical sensor, motion-detecting accelerometer, speech-detecting accelerometer, and force sensor.

Microphone

Both the AirPods 3 and the AirPods 3 Pro has dual beamforming microphones; inward-facing microphone

Price

To the part you’ve been anticipating, the price of the AirPods 3 sells at a lower price of $179 (£169) and will be available for pre-order immediately ahead of their launch next week. However, the AirPods Pro sells at $249 (£239)

On the whole, the AirPods 3 brings up Apple’s earbuds to speeds in terms of comfort and audio functions, which are the two areas that matter the most when using an earbud.

So, there you have it. Hopefully, this article helps inform your decision while making a purchase.
