Each time a new model of Samsung Galaxy is launched, there are always tons of questions that come from users.
Although there have been leaks littered over the internet ever since the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series was released, one big question I always get asked via email or on social media is that of SD card storage – will the Galaxy S22 series have expandable memory?
The S22 series which comprises the Samsung Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the Vanilla Galaxy S22, was released some days ago.
The answer is not far-fetched, to say the least, and if for anything, you may already have an idea of what the answer will be.
Unfortunately, the answer is ‘no’. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series have an expandable memory as none of the Galaxy S22 models, mixed or otherwise, have a microSD card slot. There will be no way to expand the storage capacity of your Galaxy S22 series phone after you acquire it.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has made a movie like this. Even the previous-generation Galaxy S21 series lacked a microSD card port. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if your Galaxy S22 series phone doesn’t have a microSD card slot.
Does this answer have your enthusiasm for purchasing any of the models of the S22 dropped? Oh please, let me state here (and plead the fifth) that you should hold a steady interest in this new series as they come with a juicier offer than an expandable memory.
Ideally, you would agree with me that it makes more sense that the Galaxy S22 series is without an expandable memory and I’d explain why below.
If you are familiar with the Samsung brand generally, you would know by now that majority of their devices always come with sufficient memory space that should cater to the average need of a device – whether you’re a heavy data collector or not.
So, it’s safe to say that Samsung saw no reason to include an SD card slot in this S22 series. But for any reason whatsoever, the baseline remains that the Galaxy S22 series does not have expandable memory.

The phones in the S22 series come in a variety of storage options, with the top-of-the-line Galaxy S22 Ultra model having 1TB of capacity.
The Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 devices, on the other hand, come with up to 256GB of storage. Also, the devices lack a 3.5mm headphone jack, which Samsung discontinued in the Galaxy S20 series of phones.
To further buttress why the galaxy S22 series does not have an expandable SD slot, I’ve compiled the memory space that comes with these devices.
This means, if you’re looking to purchase any of the models of the S22 series, then you’re definitely about to upgrade to a newer device having a larger storage device.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are available in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB + 256GB storage configurations. Meanwhile, Samsung’s online store is introducing a 1TB storage option for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Hence, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available in eight different configurations: 8GB + 128GB, 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, and 12GB + 1TB.
For a quick glance, the memory sizes of each device in the Samsung Galaxy S22 series are listed below;
Samsung Galaxy S22 – 8GB RAM + 128GB
Samsung Galaxy S22+ – 8GB RAM + 128GB
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – 8GB + 128GB
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – 12GB + 256GB
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – 12GB + 512GB
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – 2GB + 1TB.
So, whether you are looking to upgrade your device or you just wish to purchase any of the devices in the S22 series, your basis for buying should be defined by your needs.
If you’re big on photo/videography you would be needing a model device that has a larger storage capacity like 512GB and You’ll need to purchase a cloud storage subscription if you require anything more.
On the other hand, if you do not do much on your device other than surfing the net or streaming videos online then you can make do with the S22+ which is of lower storage.
However, it is not enough to have such enormous space and lack the basic ways to use it so, in addition to the details above, I’d like to share some skills for the efficient use of your mobile phone storage space.
-
Get rid of large files
Some files are hidden somewhere in your device but they are redundant, try to get rid of them by deleting them off your phone to save space.
-
Use google play store to delete apps
Just in case you just purchase a new device and you haven’t had a hang of it (that is, you do not know how to operate it just yet), navigate to the play store of your device and delete unnecessary apps.
-
Clear cache of apps
Each time you open a browser or an app, it collects cookies and cache which sometimes gulps a lot of space, so to prevent this, navigate through to your phone settings and clear the app’s cache to free space.
-
Indulge WhatsApp storage manager
We all love to socialize and catch on with good old friends and family online and this consumes a lot of space, you can make use of your WhatsApp storage manager to help clear up space.
-
Move photos and videos to cloud storage
Some of the videos and JPEGs we take consume a lot of space. So, instead of leaving them sit idle in your gallery, you can move them to your cloud storage provided you have an existing account but if you don’t, you can always create one using your Gmail.
On the whole, the storage space for the S22 series is sufficient for above-average use. The main point is just to be sure to purchase the model that will satisfy your needs.
No sd slot ? I have a 400gig in my s9+. If phone crashes I loose all. No phone needed if no micro sd
Do not like that fact a charger doesn’t come with the S 22 you have to purchase one . For these prices it should be included. No it is not the same wall charger as all the other s9 or under c kind use . The charger cord is small on both ends not big on one like the others.
First time since I have a samsung phone (since galaxy s2) I am looking around a brand because no expandable memory. I could understand SD memories are an old stuff, but why not bring something new for this propuse?
Sadly most flagship are removing this option just to increase of premiums for internal storage or cloud services
It is when you see profits are first than the service provided to customers
Since no SD card for expandable memory Iand have to purchase the charger I might as well get a Google phone! This sucks Samsung!
How are you all getting on with the S22? I couldn’t understand the charge lead and the phone storage was so upsettingly low that I picked my S10 and valued it more so. The s22 is sitting in my cupboard redundant, not being used. What a waste of money if there is no SD card slot.
No SD Card slot = No new Samsung Phone… end of story! A charger should be supplied too! Might be time to bin Samsung altogether.
The S20 Note Ultra might be my last Samsung phone. No microsd? Done.
I refuse to store my photos on the cloud. SO I have to constantly move my photos and videos to a hard drive. I’m not spending 1000$+ for more memory. At that price, i’ll buy a computer with an LTE slot.
It’s insulting companies changes features the customer nevers asked or wanted. Seriously, it doesn’t cost that muh to manufacture a slot and a reader.
Had I knkw there was no SD card slot o wouldn’t have purchased it its that simple
No charger ! No expandable memory ! Battery now DRAINS quickly !!! Yes, I need to delete many never used apps (never needed to do that b4. Hummmmm. And many more fallacies. I could go on and on. Boring….because most reading this already aware of Samsung changes negatively affecting its customers. Everyone who purchased S 22 ultra need to be GREATLY compensated and/ or mailed an S 23
