When smartphones first became popular, it was assumed that they would all accept physical SIM cards and microSD cards as standard components. The explosively swift evolution that has hit the mobile world has grown over time, just like anything else, from lightweight bodies to world-class features. The removal of the microSD Card, especially from high-end devices like the Galaxy S, Note, Fold, and Flip series, was one of the significant changes that greatly impacted many. Although a lot of users are quite cool with this, there are a few others that do not seem to like the idea of smartphones not having expandable memories.
If you’re still hoping for microSD Card support or asking if Samsung S23 has microSD Card support then you should read through this article as I highlight the features of this high-end smartphone.
Does the Galaxy S23 Series have expandable memory?
The new Galaxy S23 series from Samsung features a revamped aesthetic along with many hardware and software improvements. However, none of the functions that Samsung had previously abandoned are revived by the triumvirate. The Samsung S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra lack specific microSD Card ports for storage expansion. In other words, the Galaxy S23 series do not have microSD card slots. Well, this might not be the only omission of the series. It might interest you to know that the Galaxy S23 series doesn’t include a 3.5mm headphone port either.
Some people have expressed dissatisfaction with the Galaxy S23 series. However, the absence of microSD in the Galaxy S23 series is ultimately just a small annoyance as the device comes fully packed with more than enough storage for your needs. MicroSDs were previously less useful under Android OS, and backup options are already available. Even though they are a little less handy, they are more inexpensive and technically superior. When Android OS removed the ability to format microSD storage as internal storage, the exit of microSD officially began. And rather than clinging to the past, Samsung is only looking to the future. Now, you only have to decide whether the Galaxy S23’s lack of a microSD slot is a deal-breaker for you or not. Whatever your decision, it’s not the end of the world or the worst thing that has ever happened to cell phones.
Why The Galaxy S23 Lacks Expandable Memory
While having access to external storage through the phone’s microSD card port is more handy, using an external SSD is still less practical. Nevertheless, SSDs outperform microSD cards in terms of speed and cost. Additionally, since transferring files to other devices, such as PCs, simply needs a USB slot as opposed to a microSD card reader, they are more practical. Moreover, due to Google’s Android OS, which no longer permits users to store mobile games on external storage, the advantages of having a microSD slot have lessened in modern times. With these latest developments in the modern smartphone, it is safe to say that microSD cards are typically utilized for photo and video backup and storage.
With the Galaxy S21, the company did away with the expandable storage option, and it appears that they have adopted the trend for other smartphones and the Galaxy S23. Expandable storage is currently in danger of disappearing from many of the largest expensive smartphones. Sadly, based on what we’ve seen and heard, the S23 does not support expandable memory. Expandable memory is not one of the many remarkable features of the Galaxy S23, the current top model.
Samsung appears to be imitating Apple’s strategy. Expandable storage on the S-series was no longer supported by the tech giant as of 2021. It was the Galaxy S20 that had the last model with a micro-SD slot. The Galaxy S23 is anticipated to include two internal storage options: 128 GB and 256 GB. Most people typically have enough storage with this. However, you might have to choose an external flash drive if you want to boost this.
Has your interest in buying one of the S23 models been diminished by the fact that it lacks an expandable memory? Well, in an ideal world, you would concur with me that the absence of expandable memory in the Galaxy S23 series makes more sense. The reason is simple; whether you’re a strong data collector or not, if you’re familiar with the Samsung brand in general, you already know that the majority of their devices always come with enough memory to meet the average need of a device. It is safe to assume that Samsung did not see the need to incorporate an SD card port in the S23 series. But the fact remains that the Galaxy S23 series does not support expandable memory for whatever reason.
Storage Options for Galaxy S23 series
Phone Type | RAM Capacity | Storage Capacity |
Galaxy S23 | 8GB | 128GB |
Galaxy S23 | 8GB | 256GB |
Galaxy S23 Plus | 8GB | 256GB |
Galaxy S23 Plus | 8GB | 512GB |
Galaxy S23 Ultra | 8GB | 256GB |
Galaxy S23 Ultra | 12GB | 512GB |
Galaxy S23 Ultra | 12GB | 1TB |
The Galaxy S23 Will include up to 256GB of storage and at least 8GB of RAM. In contrast to the standard model, the Galaxy S23 Plus is anticipated to come with at least 256GB of inbuilt storage. There won’t be a microSD card slot for storage expansion, which is not so unfortunate because even the Galaxy S22 has none.

Conclusion
In terms of what comes with the latest hardware, new smartphone releases appear to be in a continuous state of change. When it comes to expandable storage, SD card slots were once a standard feature on every phone. However, in 2023, they are becoming increasingly rare, which is probably why the Samsung Galaxy S23 also does not include one. The world is changing, and Samsung will undoubtedly fit in the trend.
i can live without the headphone jack and the sD storage ; 512 gB is more than enough for me and there are headphones that are Wireless and come with a mic so you can have your phone in a purse , bag or your pocket and still talk on your phone . which is a great idea , like if your on a camping , hiking , etc trip and you have you phone in a plastic bag , there is no need to get it out of the bag to talk , with the headphones that have the mic , you can talk on your phone just where they are and still keep the weather from getting to your phone .
Fuck all that. I ALREADY have 2TB Google Drive storage and it sucks if I’m without internet, not to mention images take a bit to load. I NEED my 1TB SD Card. 512 GB is not enough. I’m sick and tired of everyone trying to take that away from me.
I am Very Agree!!
I absolutely agree! 💯
amen… x off my list
None of those are the reason I demand external storage. Twice I had the phone damaged beyond repair, but still had all my files intact on the MicroSD card. 2 vacations worth of pictures and videos saved, just by having a simple storage device inside the phone. Its not an option anymore, it is a necessity.
I refuse to upgrade to Samsung S23 because of no external SD card and no phone jack and will try to find Another alterative for my current samsung phone.
Needed to update operating system, not enough storage, find out there is no SD card, will not buy again S22. Every phone I had was samsung, not anymore.
Agree, I will not upgrade to any phone with no SD card slot. Love my S20 just fine!
I own a Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G with 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. The transition to the S23 Ultra with 512GB and 12GB of RAM seems straightforward for the most part given that it comes with the stylus pen also. However, the absence of a headset or ear bud slot is non sense to me. On the other hand the better camera, processor and battery capacity are big pluses. One item mentioned in this report puzzles me. They refer to a S23 Ultra model with 1TB of storage! Is such device available? Has someone heard of this? Can someone clarify?
Thanks.
