What Is the Correct Way to Charge an iPhone 13 Pro? Does Not Damage the Battery

There are three ways to charge your iPhone 13 Pro. They include:

  • Using MagSafe charger
  • Using  USB-C adapter
  • Using USB-A adapter

Let’s look at each.

MagSafe charger

Ideally, you should use the MagSafe charger with a 20W adapter or greater. You should use the USB-C connector to connect it to the adapter. If you don’t have such an adapter, you can plug it into a USB-C port on your PC or Mac.

Ensure to place its face up and that there are no foreign objects on it or around it. It offers safe charging compared to the other methods. Besides, you get fast charging, with your iPhone reaching 50% within 30 minutes.

To ensure optimal charging results, first, plug the MagSafe wireless charger into a power source, then wait for three seconds. The best part? It is compatible with MagSafe accessories such as iPhone 13 Pro MagSafe case.

Some of the iPhone Pro 13 Magsafe cases you can buy include:

Cloud Soft Case with HaloLock $29.9

Coming from ESR, the case features a quality construction coupled with a sleek finish. The shiny Dark Green finish not only looks good on you but also improves your phone’s aesthetics. You can also get it in Sky Blue and Black colors. Fortunately, the case is only compatible with iPhone 13 Pro.

Thanks to the soft finish, it feels smooth in your hands. That said, it has an anti-grip design so you don’t drop your iPhone when traveling. As mentioned, it is MagSafe compatible meaning you don’t have to remove it when charging. Enjoy fast charging and full-body protection with this sleek case.

Air Armor Clear Case with HaloLock $27.99

If clear cases are your cup of tea, this case is what you need. It allows you to show off the iPhone 13 Pro build while allowing you to use the MagSafe. With it, you get fast charging without removing it. And thanks to the quality build, it can withstand the heat produced during charging.

The case has air guard corners that absorb shock from accidental drops. Thanks to its hard exterior, it is resistant to scratches, fingerprints, and other elements. As you’d expect, you get a comfortable and ergonomic grip for comfortable phone use. It also comes with raised bezel keeping scratches and dust away from your camera and screen.

Classic Hybrid Case with HaloLock $26.99

Finally, you can opt for this classic case with quite a conventional design. It almost feels like the iPhone Pro 13 itself. This is thanks to the clear design, and how it fits like a glove. Again, it is compatible with the MagSafe charger so you can enjoy fast charging on the go. What’s more, you get precise cutouts for the ports, camera, and speaker.

Using a USB-C adapter and lighting cable

Alternatively, you can use a USB-C adapter with a lighting cable. In fact, Apple ships the iPhone Pro 13 with a lighting cable. All you need to buy is the USB-C adapter. Similar to the MagSafe charger, it is fast charging. Your phone can reach 50% within 30 minutes.

However, using this method is prone to tear and wear. Here is how to keep your lighting cable working for long:

  • Grasp the hard part of the cable

Instead of grasping the soft plastic areas, grip the hard plastic jacket. While Apple touts the lighting cable as the most durable, the soft plastic can detach from the connector if you habitually use it to plug and unplug the connector.

  • Avoid straining or folding the cable

While the cable may appear elastic, it is made of rigid wires within it. As such, if you stretch or fold it often, the wires will eventually snap. Avoiding such acts can keep your cable working for long.

  • Don’t expose the pin to dirt

Unlike most cables, the lighting cable has exposed pins. This means their susceptibility to damage is increased. We recommend using a soft pouch to store, your cable to avoid scratches or spilling water over it.

Using a USB-A adapter and lighting cable

Finally, you can use a conventional USB-A adapter to charge your iPhone Pro 13. However, this method is unreliable since it is slow charging.

How to avoid damaging the battery

Now that you know different ways to charge your iPhone, let’s look at the best practices.

  • Avoid charging to 100 percent

Well, contrary to most beliefs, you should not fully charge your phone. In fact, lithium-ion batteries should not be charged to 100 percent. And as you know, at 100 percent, the battery is warm which is not ideal for lithium-ion. Instead, boost it over the day.

  • Avoid running it down to zero percent

Discharging to zero percent will also damage your lithium-ion battery. This is why you should top up over the course of the day.

  • Recharge your phone at 20 percent

As mentioned, you should not fully discharge the battery. Instead, recharge it at 20 percent and ensure not to charge beyond 80 percent.

  • Charge multiple times

Unlike nickel-cadmium batteries, lithium batteries prefer short charging spurts.  As such, charging for 10, 20, or 30 minutes intervals will see the lifespan of your battery improve.

Final verdict

As you can see, you can charge your iPhone 13 Pro using the MagSafe charger and lighting cable. The lighting cable however is ideal with USB-C rather than USB-A. And to avoid damaging the battery, do not let it overheat, discharge to zero percent, or charge up to 100 percent.
