How Long is the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Battery Life?

One feature everyone buying a new phone looks out for is the battery capacity. It sucks to always reach out for a charger now and then. iPhones have relatively good battery life but are the latest iPhone 14 an upgrade on what we already have?

If you are considering choosing between the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, you surely would want to know which has the better battery capacity. We will examine each phone’s battery capacity and life in this article. But let’s consider what determines a smartphone’s battery life first.

What Determines A Phone’s Battery Life?

A phone’s battery rating undoubtedly determines how much power it can hold. The more mAh it has, the more it can save energy and consequently last. However, other factors also contribute to the smartphone’s battery effectiveness beyond the size. These factors include:

  • Connectivities

The connectivities that tell most on phones’ batteries include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, hotspot, data, and maybe location detector. Switching on these connections at once significantly drains a phone’s battery. Although Apple has improved its hardware to minimize battery drainage via this means, the intervention only reduces the effect.

Therefore, you should only switch them on when you need them. And for the network-dependent ones, you should know that the weaker the signal, the more energy the phone exerts to search for it.

  • Screen Size & Resolution

Big-screen phones are convenient to use and beloved by many people. However, the extra screen size also means extra energy to lighten up everywhere. If the resolution is now 1080, you can expect that the processor will also demand more power from the battery to display these pixels. Battery drainage through this medium may be insignificant, but it also adds up.

  • Frequency of Use

We all use our smartphones differently. A gamer and movie enthusiast will surely experience a quicker battery drain than someone who only makes calls and slightly uses internet connectivity. The more activity you perform with your mobile device at once, the more energy demand it makes from your phone’s power department.

  • Applications

It may sound nice to have plenty of applications on your phone, but many of them require tremendous energy to function. Some apps run in the background, sap your data, and make heavy battery demands. Those apps (e.g., Snapchat) that require connections to functions drain batteries faster than others that don’t.

  • Surrounding Temperature

Room temperature is the best environment for your smartphone’s battery. If the devices constantly get heated up, or you use them consistently in a scorching climate, it can both slow down and damage the battery.

  • Battery Age

All batteries have their lifespans, even with the best usage. If your phone’s battery is old, you can expect it to charge and drain faster than when it was still new. In most cases, the only solution to battery drainage because of this reason is to change it.

Now that we’ve considered the factors determining a smartphone’s battery effectiveness, let’s review the two Apple gadgets.

iPhone 14 Pro Battery Life

iPhone 14 Pro’s battery size is 3200mAh, a value not significantly different from its immediate predecessor’s. Based on independent tests conducted by Tom’s Guide, Apple, and Phone’s Arena, the battery lasts up to 12 hours on average under heavy usages such as gaming and video streaming. But compared to iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro’s battery falls short by about 2 hours when used for gaming and long-term video streaming. For other light usages, such as audio playback and calls, the battery lasts up to 75 hours or three days before needing a recharge.

To conserve the battery, Apple built a feature into the device that sleeps it whenever users turn its face down or put it in their pockets. The charging options include 15W MagSafe, 7.5W Qi charging, and USB-C to Lightning cable capable of delivering 30W and 50% charging in half an hour.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Battery Life

This 6.7-inch Apple flagship comes with a battery size of 4,323mAh, a 29mAh reduction from what its immediate predecessor offers. According to Apple, this phone lasts up to 75 hours if all a person does with it is play music. For video streaming, the battery continues to work for 25 hours. However, from rigorous independent testing by Tom’s Guide, Phone Arena, the average time this battery lasts is 14 hours.

The table below compares the battery life capacities of these two high-end Apple phones.

Phone Audio Playback Video Playback Video Streaming
iPhone 14 Pro Up to 75 hours Up to 23 hours Up to 20 hours
iPhone 14 Pro Max Up to 75 hours Up to 29 hours Up to 20 hours

Like its iPhone 14 Pro series member, users can charge it with MagSafe, Qi, and its lightning cable. But since Apple doesn’t include chargers in the box, you will have to buy these accessories separately. Of course, that raises the question: “Where do I get the best chargers for my iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max?” HaloLock™ 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with CryoBoost™  effectively takes the worry off your mind.

3 in 1 magsafe charger

Here is a 3-in-1 package that charges your iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max with other Apple products – AirPods and Apple Watch. Besides its strong magnets that hold your device in place, one major highlight of this wireless charger is the cooling CryoBoost technology that keeps your iPhone cool while it gets powered. You can also adjust the view to your most preferred angle, and its $79.9 price tag is very competitive, considering the benefits it offers.

Conclusion

Battery-wise, the two iPhones under review do not outperform their predecessors. Instead, we see a reduction in capacity and use the time before owners start considering a recharge. Nevertheless, this slight drop in batter capacity does not impede the effectiveness of these mobile machines.

There is no significant difference in the battery life of both phones, although the sizes are different. The enormous size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max already took all its battery gains over the iPhone 14 Pro. Therefore, your budget will likely be the primary deciding factor in which of the two to purchase.
