Magnets aren’t as strong as the description makes it out to be. Portrait mode standing up isn’t very sturdy. The case is nice and sturdy and I like the pencil holder. If you want a case that does nothing more to protect, this is good for the money. But not a case if you’re wanting to use it standing up with an easel type back.

This is the best iPad case I’ve ever used. Being able to remove the cover and use it only when needed saves weight but keeps the protection. Plus, being able to rotate the iPad without having the cover hanging of the side is genius. The magnets are strong and hold the iPad well. The lip around the front means if I lay the iPad face-down it’s protected. I added a Bersem paperlike screen protector (also 5 stars), and I have great protection. One suggestion: When you turn the iPad to portrait, you can only do it with the power socket on the bottom, meaning you can’t leave it plugged in. This may be due to where Apple puts the magnets inside the iPad, but for now I have to set the iPad on a couple books so I can keep it juiced up while in portrait. Wish I could turn it 180 and have the power cord come out the top.Removing one star because of my suggestion and because people don’t read five-star reviews. This is a great product! Far better than Apple’s $99 cover.
